The Monterey County Fair held its first ever cake eating contest, sponsored by Rosine's in Monterey.
The plan was to have 10 cakes for 10 contestants, but interest was so strong that they had to divide the cakes in half. Still, half a cake! Have you seen one of Rosine's cakes? Diabetics beware.
Ryan Bricker of Salinas won first prize and a $40 gift certificate to Rosine's. Competitors in the adult division included Monterey police officer Ken Shen and Salinas High School teacher James Williamson.
Williamson took home a ribbon but ultimately Lan Yu of Monterey eared top honors and another $40 gift certificate to Rosine's.
